At IronMind Fitness, we believe that strength goes beyond physical endurance—it’s about mental resilience too. That’s why, in June 2022, some of our members took on an epic 24-hour rowing challenge to raise awareness and funds for Stem4, a leading teenage mental health charity.
Why We Took on a 24-Hour Rowing Challenge
Mental health is just as important as physical fitness, yet many young people struggle to access the support they need. Gym member Sinead Beck-Esson organised this event after witnessing firsthand the challenges faced by young people dealing with anxiety, OCD, and other mental health conditions.
Together, our members set out to row a minimum of 240km in 24 hours, pushing our limits to highlight the importance of accessible mental health resources for teenagers.
The Power of Community in Fitness
From the moment our members started rowing, the energy in the gym was electric. Teams of three took turns, showing incredible dedication and teamwork. Our owner, Phillip Blundell, a former Royal Marines Commando, emphasised the connection between physical fitness and mental strength, saying:
“This wasn’t just about fitness—it was about showing up for each other and proving that, together, we can tackle even the toughest challenges.”
The event was more than a fundraiser—it was a powerful reminder that fitness is about more than just workouts, and our members showed incredible dedication throughout. It’s about community, support, and pushing through adversity.
Supporting Mental Health Through Fitness
Every stroke on the rowing machine symbolised a step towards better mental health support for young people. Events like this reinforce the message that physical activity can be a powerful tool in managing stress, anxiety, and depression.
